WITCH 1 HORROR CONSULTING

Witch 1 Horror consulting was formed in 1998 as an extra string to my bow, so to speak. As on many occasions over the years, I have been approached by film companies and artists seeking advise on creating technically accurate ritual scenes, or other types of specialist advice on lesser-known areas of Occultism, Witchcraft, Magic and Mythology for their various film, theatre and Art projects. Even people needing more information about a particular deity's worship, in historical contexts, or the relevant way to lay out a simple Tarot spread, or what Signs and symbols would be used in Voodoo. All these things have been asked of me and more besides. In 1999 for the first time I attended the International film festival at Cannes, Where I made many contacts in the field of Television and Film. Where shortly after I was asked to advice and work on several scripts in the genre of Horror and Supernatural based thrillers. Why would there be a market for such a consultancy? You may ask yourself.
Well, think of the well known horror movies of recent times such as the craft or practical Magic or even further back with such films as Rosemary's baby, all these films had technical advisors for the ritual scenes, real witches and Occultists with a solid knowledge of their subject matter to make the film even more relevant and realistic to their audience Think of films such as these in comparison to the ever so popular but instantly forgettable Hammer horror films of the 60s and 70s, and of course these are often the bench mark that modern writers on Occult based fiction tend to aim for. Often using incorrect terminology, badly put together ritual scenes, baring no relation to actual practices, signs and sigils from unrelated magical systems Put together into one big mess.

I have been involved in Magic, Witchcraft and related Occult and esoteric study and practice since early childhood, and am well versed in the many types of Ritual from many cultures and time frames, as well as the new age movement, Psychic phenomena, mediumship and Divination, which to the average script writer can throw no end of difficulty into the plot.

I have been fortunate in having much experience within the media, as the subject of projects as well as a consultant on several others. Because of this background I am more than aware of the film world's need to keep the audiences interest with interesting material that is fresh and exciting while still retaining authenticity to the original practices.

From the first time I saw a Hammer film and blurted out to my parents sitting right beside me, 'that won't work, if you want to call up Beelzebub, he should have said xxxxxx, instead' I was twelve at the time, but I knew it wasn't right, but better still I knew how to make it right. Now it’s not a wise idea to have invocations so perfect, as to actually call up the named entity, but in actuality with an appropriate bit of fixing by an expert this is not a problem at all, and need never be so.

Imagine you are making a film maybe a love story or a comedy, one of your Characters is a wacky young woman into the new age, imagine she is desperate to find a perfect husband, and you picture her wearing a crystal, would you know which crystals attract love? Imagine you are writing a script, which is set in 1660 an historical drama, and your lead character is a Witch, what might her practices be in 1660 compared to 1960. Maybe you are in the middle of some Archaeological adventure in ancient Egypt, who were the big league Gods in upper Egypt during the middle kingdom, and how were they worshipped? Maybe you are writing a murder story and in your plot, the murderer leaves Occult signs cut into his victims flesh, would you know which signs? For a typical black mass scene in your average horror flick, do you know what goes where on the altar and why? Would you know the correct way to draw the pentacle that summons the wind in modern Wicca, and with which magical tool? In Voodoo would you know the relevant sacrifice to the Love Goddess and what colour the priestess of her cult would wear? All these things add to the success of your movie, and the way it is received by moviegoers.

I will be attending the International film Festival in Cannes again this year, where I will be available to meet with production company's and writers within the Genre of Horror and Supernatural film and TV projects.
